Eighteen Americans were moved to a special hospital unit in Omaha after exposure to a hantavirus on a cruise ship. The unit is the National Quarantine Unit in Omaha at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. They had been on the MV Hondius cruise ship. They stayed there so doctors could watch for illness.

Health officials set a 42-day monitoring period because symptoms can come late. The 42 days ended on June 21, 2026, and the Americans left the unit. Many passengers said the time was hard and the experience felt stressful. Food and small comforts were provided to help them pass the time.
