A watercraft hit a gray whale near Vancouver on May 4, 2026. The collision happened near Siwash Rock off Stanley Park around 7:30 p.m. People on the shore filmed the moment and many were shocked. Many people had been watching this whale for days and it drew a crowd.

Rescue teams helped the rider after the crash. The rider was taken to hospital in serious but stable condition. The Department of Fisheries and Oceans is investigating the incident and experts later saw the whale and reported it appeared uninjured. Officials reminded boaters to stay at least 100 metres away from whales because this helps avoid collisions.
