Texas Moves to a Chronological History Framework

Texas will teach history in time order. The State Board of Education changed the K-8 social studies framework. Young students in kindergarten through second grade will learn basic stories about America and Texas.

From third to seventh grade lessons will move through earlier times toward modern events. Grade seven will study World War I and World War II and the Progressive Era. The rules say school districts will begin using the new standards in the 2030–2031 school year. Some teachers and critics worry the plan focuses more on Texas and the United States and less on world history. Many people are talking about the changes.
