SpaceX and Cursor: A Big Move Into AI Coding

SpaceX announced on April 21, 2026 that it will work with Cursor to build advanced AI tools. SpaceX said on X that the two firms are 'now working closely together to create the world’s best coding and knowledge work AI.' SpaceX has the right to acquire Cursor later this year for $60 billion or to pay $10 billion for their work together. The arrangement will give SpaceX strong access to developer workflows while also adding massive computing power.

Cursor grew rapidly after its funding rounds and it reached a high valuation in late 2025. The company has been used by many professional software teams, and its product is integrated into developer environments. Although Cursor was valued at about $29.3 billion after a Series D, its market talks had pushed estimates higher in early 2026. Since SpaceX owns the Colossus training system through xAI, the partnership combines distribution and compute. Therefore the deal could accelerate AI coding tools and change who controls core developer platforms.
