Richard Pollak: Media Critic, Magazine Founder, and Biographer

Richard Pollak was a journalist who helped start More, a magazine about the press. He was the founding editor and he led the magazine in the early 1970s. More began in 1971 and it often criticized coverage of the Vietnam War and other powerful institutions. Pollak wanted journalists to check facts and to make regular corrections.

Pollak later wrote a book called The Creation of Dr. B that criticized Bruno Bettelheim. The book was published in 1997 and used many interviews and documents. It led readers to question Bettelheim's reputation. Pollak died on December 27, 2025, at age 91 in Stockholm, and his wife Diane Walsh confirmed his death.
