PE Guy: The Viral Satire of Private Equity
Johnny Hilbrant Partridge created the PE Guy character in March 2025 as a sharp, performative parody of the private equity ‘bro’ he kept encountering at weddings and industry events, and the character was soon posted online. Using a Snapchat filter and an exaggerated voice, he amplified familiar humblebrags into short, repeatable lines that have entered popular conversation.
The account grew rapidly: pre-PE Guy he had roughly seven thousand followers, and within months his audience ballooned to about two hundred thousand. Videos are often shot in front of a green screen and the face filter is a deliberate safety; consequently he has declined some in-person bookings to protect anonymity.
Merchandise including hats that say 'Due To My Role' and 'Decent' has repeatedly sold out, and personalized Cameo videos have been priced as high as $400 for brief roasts. Moreover, brand collaborations with firms such as Cadillac, Wall Street Prep and Blade have provided lucrative work, and some private equity groups have even approached him about helping raise funds. The Boston Globe reports he is on track to earn more than half a million dollars this year, a fact that illustrates how satire and commerce can become entangled.
Despite the money and attention, he continues to teach classes at Barry's and SoulCycle and to record episodes of his podcast Due To My Role, where interviews often mix parody and real conversation. If audiences accept that the joke targets a style rather than a person, the satire can spark discussion; nevertheless, the line between critique and commodification is being tested in real time.
