Alberto Carvalho is the superintendent of Los Angeles public schools. He has led the district since February 2022 and worked to raise graduation rates. The FBI searched his home and his office on February 25, 2026. The searches took place early in the morning and drew media attention.

The Los Angeles school board placed him on paid administrative leave on February 27, 2026. The district said it is cooperating with investigators and that students will not lose class time. Andres Chait will serve as acting superintendent while the board works. Many families have questions and the schools continue to run.
