From Dubai to Dublin: The Extradition of Daniel Kinahan

Daniel Kinahan was brought from Dubai to Ireland on August 9, 2026, on an Irish government plane. He had been arrested in Dubai in April 2026 after Irish courts issued warrants, and he lost a final appeal against extradition in July. Authorities say he faces charges of directing a criminal organisation.

He appeared before the Special Criminal Court and was remanded to Portlaoise Prison, where he will await further hearings. The flight landed at an airport on the outskirts of Dublin in the evening. Portlaoise Prison is about 90 miles (145 kilometers) southwest of Dublin. The next court date is October 5, 2026. Observers note that the State and UAE cooperated on the case, and some earlier extraditions used Air Corps flights.

The United States offered a five million dollar reward in 2022 related to the Kinahan organisation, and international attention has followed the extradition. Although legal challenges delayed the process, the transfer was completed and Mr Kinahan still remains in custody. Therefore, Ireland will now prepare for court proceedings that could run for months.
