Big AI Campus: Nvidia and OpenAI's Ohio Project

Nvidia is in talks to provide a $250 billion financial backstop for OpenAI. The money would help OpenAI lease a large data center project in southern Ohio. SoftBank is the developer of the site. The talks were reported in late July 2026.

The planned campus could reach 10 gigawatts of power and the full project may cost more than $500 billion, including chips and equipment. Work may start in 2028 and the site could be built in stages over several years. This project is part of OpenAI's wider Stargate plan to build AI infrastructure in the United States. Many companies and governments watch this project.
