What Happened in SpaceX’s 12th Starship Test Flight (May 2026)
SpaceX launched a very large rocket on May 22, 2026. It was the company's 12th Starship test flight from Starbase, Texas and the first flight of a new, bigger version of the vehicle.
The rocket flew for about an hour. The booster broke apart during the flight, but the upper stage made a planned splashdown in the Indian Ocean. The ship carried mock Starlink satellites to test hardware and communications. Engineers will study the flight data to learn what worked and what needs change. The test gave useful information for future flights and for NASA missions that may use Starship.
