HFPA Files Antitrust Suit Over Golden Globes Takeover

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) has sued Penske Media Corporation. The group says Penske and its owner Jay Penske used a secret plan to take the Golden Globe Awards. The lawsuit was filed on July 28, 2026 in federal court in California. HFPA says the buyers pushed a boycott to lower the Globes' value so they could buy it.

The complaint names the Golden Globe Foundation and Gregory Goeckner. It asks for more than $150 million and wants to undo the sale. The HFPA says the move made a few companies control many awards and trade magazines. The case is now in court and will take time to decide.
