Attack at an Executive’s Home: What Happened and Why It Matters

On April 10, 2026, San Francisco police responded shortly after 4 a.m. to a fire at the home of Sam Altman. An incendiary device described as a Molotov cocktail struck an exterior gate and set it alight. The fire was extinguished and no injuries were reported.

Less than an hour later, a 20-year-old man was arrested near OpenAI’s San Francisco offices after he reportedly threatened to burn the building. Officers who had been at the earlier scene recognized the suspect and detained him. The San Francisco Police Department and OpenAI are assisting with the investigation, and charges are pending.
