📖 Article
The University of Virginia made a deal with the Justice Department and the White House on October 22, 2025. The deal pauses federal civil rights investigations into the school and keeps it eligible for federal funding.
The university will send quarterly reports on compliance through 2028. The agreement does not include a fine and does not require outside monitors. Interim president Paul Mahoney wrote, "I believe strongly that this agreement represents the best available path forward." UVA is the first public university to reach such a deal with the administration. The university had dissolved its DEI office earlier this year.
