Kuala Lumpur, 26 October 2025 — A joint declaration to halt fighting on the Thailand–Cambodia frontier was signed at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord was signed by Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia and Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul of Thailand. President Donald Trump and Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim witnessed the ceremony, and many regional officials attended.
The accord sets out a framework to reduce violence and was drafted to remove heavy weapons from contested front-line positions. It requires demining operations, the establishment of an ASEAN observer team, and the prompt release of 18 Cambodian soldiers. Although questions remain about long-term border demarcation, both governments have committed to follow the schedule that observers will verify. Therefore, diplomats say the pact could help restore confidence in border towns and allow displaced families to return. However, implementation will depend on sustained monitoring and good-faith cooperation.
