President Donald Trump signed an executive order on October 6, 2025 to approve a road to the Ambler mining district in Alaska. The order tells federal agencies to reissue permits so construction can start. The road is 211 miles long and it would give access to mines that have copper and other minerals.

The U.S. government also invested $35.6 million and became a 10% stakeholder in Trilogy Metals. Many people hope the road will bring jobs and business to local towns, but some Native groups and environmental groups worry about damage to caribou, fish, and rivers.
