What Happened in Gaza: Short Update and English Practice
Air strikes hit the Gaza Strip on January 31, 2026. The attacks struck Rafah, Gaza City and Khan Younis. At least 26 people were killed and more than 30 were injured. Some people were trapped under rubble and ambulances could not reach them. Many families had already left damaged houses.
The Israeli military said it targeted Hamas commanders and fighters who emerged from underground near Rafah. The strikes came as the Rafah border crossing with Egypt was set to reopen. Hospitals treated the wounded and worked with few supplies. The health system is fragile after many months of fighting. People need water and food.
