Paula Doress-Worters and the Book That Changed Women's Health
Paula Doress-Worters was a writer and activist who helped many women. She was a co-founder of the book Our Bodies, Ourselves. The book gave clear facts about women's bodies, birth control, abortion, and mental health. Paula wrote the chapter on postpartum depression after she had the illness herself in 1966. She told other women what she learned and helped them find care.
She died on February 21, 2026, at age 87 in Redwood City, California. Her work made it easier for women to talk about health and feelings after birth. Many readers used her book to learn and to ask for better treatment from doctors.
