NYC Pauses an AI High School Plan after Family Protests

New York City paused a plan to open an A.I.-focused high school on April 27, 2026. Schools Chancellor Kamar Samuels withdrew the proposal for Next Generation Technology High School after many parents protested.

The city also stopped plans to close or move some Upper West Side middle schools. Families said they needed more time and clearer rules about using artificial intelligence in classrooms.
