Muse Image: What the New Instagram AI Does and How to Protect Your Photos

Meta launched Muse Image on July 7, 2026. It is an AI tool that can make new pictures using public Instagram photos when someone tags a public account.

If your Instagram is public, people can use your photos unless you change a setting. To stop this, open your profile, tap Menu, go to Sharing and reuse, and turn off the setting for Posts and Reels. Turning off the setting stops new AI images from using your future posts, but it may not remove images already made. You can also make your account private so only approved followers see your posts. Many people and agencies raised concerns about privacy and consent.
