Limited Return of Anthropic’s Mythos: What Happened

The United States changed rules for an AI model called Mythos. Anthropic is a San Francisco company that makes the model. On June 12, the government ordered Anthropic to stop foreign people from using Mythos and Fable 5. Anthropic then disabled the models for all customers.

On June 26 the Commerce Department allowed Anthropic to give Mythos back to some trusted U.S. partners. The move lowered tension between the company and the government. Anthropic and the Commerce Department continue to talk. Many companies watch what happens next.
