When a Studio Steps Back: The Case of 'Artificial' and Amazon

Amazon has stopped distributing a new movie called Artificial. The film is about OpenAI and its leader Sam Altman. Luca Guadagnino directed the movie and Andrew Garfield plays Sam Altman. The film finished shooting last autumn and had a planned awards run in early 2027.

Amazon will look for another studio to release the film and is working with the filmmakers to find a new home. The decision came after Amazon agreed to invest up to $50 billion in OpenAI. The cast also includes Monica Barbaro and Mark Rylance. The story focuses on Altman's brief firing and rehiring in 2023.
