Red Sea Risks and Saudi Oil Routes
The Houthi rebels in Yemen have moved along the Red Sea coast. They took control of islands and towns near the Bab al-Mandeb Strait in September 2026. Ship operators now face higher danger when they sail there because the fighters can attack ships.
Saudi Arabia closed the East‑West pipeline after attacks on nearby facilities. The pipeline moved about five million barrels a day to the Red Sea ports, so the shutdown may reduce oil exports and make shipping harder. Insurance costs rose and some companies avoid the area. Local authorities said the pipeline shutdown was a precaution.
