Drug-Price Deal: AstraZeneca and U.S. Steps to Lower Costs

President Donald Trump announced a deal with AstraZeneca on October 10, 2025 at the White House. The company will lower some drug prices for the Medicaid program. The agreement followed public warnings that tariffs could be imposed on imported medicines.

AstraZeneca said it will expand U.S. manufacturing and make a large factory in Virginia. The company plans a $4.5 billion plant and a $50 billion investment in the United States by 2030. The White House also plans a website called TrumpRx so people can buy drugs directly from manufacturers in January 2026. Some analysts say the deal may not lower costs for people with private insurance or Medicare.
