Campus Safety and Remote Classes: What Happened in Late March 2026

Over the last days the IRGC has warned that American and Israeli universities in the region may be treated as legitimate targets after a university in Tehran was struck. The Iran University of Science and Technology was damaged in the strikes. This warning has raised concerns across Gulf campuses and emergency measures have been activated.

Many universities have switched to online teaching and some buildings have been closed. NYU Abu Dhabi has shifted to remote learning earlier in March and campus services have been limited. Georgetown’s Qatar campus remained closed and some institutions are sheltering students while local authorities monitor security. Universities have been coordinating with local authorities and with foreign embassies to review security plans.

Students and staff have been advised to follow official safety messages and check university emails for updates. U.S. embassy notices have urged American citizens to exercise increased caution. Coursework is being adapted for online delivery and some exams are being moved to remote formats. Students are encouraged to follow embassy guidance and to register with their consular services.
