Attack at an Executive’s Home: What Happened and Why It Matters

Early on April 10, 2026, someone threw a Molotov cocktail at the home of Sam Altman in San Francisco. The device hit an exterior gate and started a small fire that burned part of the gate. Fire grew quickly but neighbors and police helped to put it out.

Police from the San Francisco Police Department went to the house shortly after 4 a.m. and found the gate burning. No one was hurt. Less than an hour later, a 20-year-old man was arrested near OpenAI’s offices after he made threats. OpenAI said it is helping the police with the investigation. The police have not named the suspect.
